Hi everyone,
Does anyone know the best settings to export your pictures from Lightroom to Facebook? My pictures look nice and sharp on Lightroom post editing and when I upload them to FB, they look more blurry. Help! __________________

Make sure your image fits 720 x 720 px at 72 ppi.
Quality should be 60 or 65. Use "Sharpen for Screen", "Low" or "Normal" (don't remember what I use off the top of my head). When uploading to Facebook, make sure you check the "high quality" box. If it makes a difference, I upload to Facebook through my browser, not any plug-in within Lightroom. |

Use the File/Export and in LR4 select the option, For E-Mail. I think the option was the same in LR3 but it might have been For Web.
Set the desired quality, final size, Output Sharpening to Normal, set Minimize Embedded Metadata, add a Watermark if desired, and turn off that bleeping After Export Show in Explorer. How much sharpening is needed will depend on the image so the only way to really tell what works is by trying. If the image you post still isn't sharp enough change the Output sharpening to High next time. Pixels per inch is for printing and it defaults to 72 for that reason. For display on a monitor it doesn't matter what the setting is. |

I would export to disk and make sure they are 50-72 PPI, this makes it really hard to print. Also if you make it larger than (I believe I was told) 500 pixels on the wide side, FB manipulates the photo (adds their compression, which is total JUNK), making it look like crap.
I would also ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS add a watermark. Is it still in their TOS that anything you upload there... is permanently OWNED by them? I never put anything "good" on there anyway, I link to my photos from outside FB... lol |

Facebook decompressed your file when either dimension is longer than 720 px.
The only stuff I out on Facebook is vacation snapshots, usually terrible iPhone photos of people mugging for the camera, so they can have them as far as I'm concerned. |

I export pretty much like Cyclohexane suggested. I export to my desktop as a jpeg, upload to Facebook, then delete the jpeg from my desktop. |

Yup, that's still in the ToS. You give them complete and total rights to any image you upload, even if you delete it from your profile. That's why I only upload my family related images.
