TRY:
Edit>preferences>interface>Restore Default Workspaces ??
Edit>file handling>file compatibility ??
Not sure that will help your problem, but can not hurt. You will need explore the preferences tabs anyway

It will take time to learn the features that you need to use in CS?. There are many more features that you will never use, so concentrate on the features that are important to you.
The public library offers books about most Adobe products and photo editing
YouTube has thousands of Adobe related videos, I sometimes prefer a visual.
It will get easier,
