Exclamation Batch renaming by Exif

I use a second shooter often. I don't know how to sync my camera, and a lot of time my assistant doesnt either. I am faced with a delhema when I need to organize them in order. I try opening in windows and clicking organize by date but it still won't combine our files even though they are both in the same folder it just puts theirs in order and then mine in order, maybe because it is recognizing that they are from 2 different sources. I have been going into bridge and organizing them manually which is tedious, but, even more tedious is having to rename them one by one so they will stay in order when I need to post them to an online gallery. Please help!!! Is there a software or a process I can use that will allow me to completely rearrange the order of my photos and rename them?
Brandee

Since you have bridge, try the following..

Make sure both cameras time/date is synchronised.

When they turn up in the content window you can sort by date created.

You can batch rename with lightroom. Also there are various third party utilities that will let you auto rename everything.

I use Thumbs Plus Pro to copy, sort and auto-rename.

I have used the free Bulk Renaming Utility for Windows for years. It is loaded with options for renaming files.

Introduction - Bulk Rename Utility

I believe you can bulk modify Exif data with EXIF Tool.

FastStone is another free color managed photo viewer/editor that allows you to batch rename images. It even displays common RAW formats as well as TIFF, DNG, but not PSD images.

FastStone Image Viewer - Powerful and Intuitive Photo Viewer, Editor and Batch Converter

You don't have to buy anything. All you have to do, as another has mentioned, is be sure ALL cameras are synced to the same time. It doesn't even need to be the right time. It just needs to be the SAME time. Actually, I'm not sure how else you could sort/sync all the photos from all the cameras.

Get together before the shoot and sync or have each party at some point before the shoot use the world clock on the internet to sync the cameras. That way there is no question as to what device was used to set the time.

Now just load all images into one folder. Open the folder in ACR. Go to View>Sort>Date Created. Now select all the images and go to Tools>Batch rename.

Done.

Why reply?

The original OP hasn't responded to any of these ideas...

Because many others read these questions and even if the OP never returns, others who aren't aware of how to do something can perhaps learn something new as well.
