Default Monsoon over Saguaro Lake

Any help on how to get rid of noise after converting raw to hdr in photomatix. I'm new to the genre and don't have photoshop or other PP tools. Thanks for looking, and C&C is always appreciated.

Hi there,

Still working on it myself but I have found that you get more noise, the more you 'cook' the picture. If you are using Photomatix, I would recommend using a 'Light Smoothing' setting of 'Very High'.

Once you've got Photoshop, get something like Noise Ninja to help the Noise Problem.

There's a few HDR 'Aces' around here who might give you some better advice.

Keep going,

G

Great shot and Doc is right about the light smoothing Also the Luminosity adds a ton of noise so beware of that slider If you use the micro smoothing slider in Photomatix it will help with the noise a lot, but you will also loose a bit of detail as a compromise. I don't no of a stand alone noise reduction program off hand, but I'm if you google something might pop up.

Best,
Jay

I know zip about HDR but I do know that's what a monsoon storm in the desert looks like. Nice catch!

Thanks for the comments and excellent suggestions. I'll try to redo it across the weekend and resubmit it on this thread later, but only if I can drastically improve it. Thanks again.
