Default Portland's Gasco Building

Portland's White Whale...the old Gas and Coke building on Highway 30 in NW Portland has this dilapidated old brick building that looms within a security fence amid trains and fuel tanks. This is as close as one can go to it without being arrested. I have always wondered about it so did some searching...

NW Local: Portland’s Architectural White Whale TimberPalace

Thanks Josh... I wish I could get a better shot, but the guards were vigilant an have a station just to the right of the shot about 50 yards.

I go past this building at least 4 times a week and often more. I've always wondered about it but not enough to do the research. Thanks for sharing this with us. Now you have my curiosity juices going because of the environmental issues raised. Portland is getting ready to begin the super fund river cleanup adventure so maybe this will get looped into that effort.

Dave... I have wondered about this building for years... many have tried to get in and see it and photograph it... to no avail. I inside would make for some fascinating HDR shots, I think...
I also wonder about the environmental impact...

Rust - Too bad about the fence. This would make a great black & white sans the fence.

I know, huh...the only way to get that is with a cherry picker truck... well beyond both my ways and means.

Very nice. I like your well executed and balanced HDR interpretation.
Thanks for including the link with the historical information. It sounds like there are a number of people who want to see the inside, but the possible contamination could be a reason that the company will not allow anyone in... liability.
