Are the light things metal or plastic and the dark parts just spaces in between?
Is the shown image in reality rather small so that the structures on the light parts wouldn't easy to see?

The light things are neither metal or plastic. Spaces are spaces.

The shown image is larger than in real life, that's why it's a close-up. Is it to scale?
No.
I don't understand what you mean by "structures on the light parts". Can you ask in another way?
Remember, ask questions so I can give you just a "yes" or "no" answer.

The part about the structures (the dents and dimples) has been answered by the size. Thanks. Now that you eliminated plastic and metal, back to thinking what it might be.
