I see you corrected the number. This looks a little like an old-fashioned automotive grease fitting, but I doubt that's what it is, for a number of reasons. I am guessing that this is smaller than a bread box and may even be small enough to hold comfortably in one hand. An award of some kind, maybe?

Looks like a secure connector for a
tarp, tent, guitar strap or such. It
would be only one part of it. The
other part snap-locks onto it so to
make a secure fastening.

Yes I did LOL!!
Nothing to do with automotive grease fitting.
It is smaller than a bread box, you can hold it but not overly comfortably.

Not for tarps or tents, I think your thinking of a guitar capo and it isn't that either

Magnetic snap or latch, such as for a belt
or for the closure on a bag or purse.

Keychain, but the second clue looks like a pocketknife. Both shouldn't be uncomfortable in the hand however.
