This otherwise bad shot, makes a nice poll.
So coming or going and how can you see that? __________________

My choice is not offered. I would say the train is setting still and the photographer is running for his life while holding the trigger down!!! :O

Wouldn't it have to be going away to cause the lights to blurr? If it were heading into the lights the lights would not be blurred?

Well it's obviously going away from the lens. So since you posted it as a question the obvious answer must be wrong! Which means it's coming toward the lens...
From The Princess Bride, "Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me!" |

. The other alternative is it's moving right to left but you've panned your camera in the same direction but at a faster speed - does that make sense rense? |

You are way too analytical, Paul
![]() My thinking is that these lights are usually at the back of a train, so perhaps it's being pulled to the right. I'm sure I'm wrong, oh well. |

Oops. I missed the "how can you see that" part.
The train is going away because on the extreme left of the blur (where it starts) and on the far side of the train there is no definite edge. You can see the blur from the train AND the snow bank behind it. My vote is for traveling left to right. |

Obviously, the train is coming to the lens. If not, then whomever took this image is really late in shooting "something" of interest. I mean, why wait there for the whole train to go by, and then shoot this?
Either that, or he didn't know the end of the train was coming. But actually, it looks like it is going from left to right. |

My guess is for 'coming' (right to left) but based on the lights. I would say the front of the train (this end if it is coming) would have the white lights (which it has), the tail of the train would have red lights - but then, being a newbie to this site and not being sure of your location, I could be completely wrong.
Or I could be typing my normal complete rubbish due to being up too late ![]() |

Thanks guys,
the train is coming to the lens. The lens is located very near the first rail track on the left side. But analytical Paul was right: I was panning the camera from right to left. So congrats to Paul for this analysis! |
