Interesting. Was this done recently or a while ago? I know that professional photo touch-ups done prior to the computer age was a real skill and took a lot of manual dexterity - and would certainly have cost a lot. It's still a skill now in the likes of Photoshop but pretty much anyone can now have a go.

This was done about 3-4 years ago. The redo.

I can find out from Mom about when. I'm sure she'll remember. I would like to know also.

Thanks again

This was Sato in 1977. (While I was on my honeymoon). This is a photo of him and his wife and my bride. He took us all over the Island and showed us the places where he and my Dad were at times during the war.

Next post will be a photo of me and one of the gang of five in Hawaii who stayed there!

Comments welcome

Sorry these got out of order, This is Sato back in the 1940's on the island of Hawaii. He lived there when the war broke out.

He and my dad were good friends.

Ok here is a pic of me with one of the gang of five. He stayed there after the war.We went to see him, he was a security guard at the airport.

I took many pictures (film then) LOL.Then to come back and show my father after all theses years have passed. But however when we returned from our honeymoon my father died suddenly the next day. He never got a chance to see them nor our wedding pictures.

Right now I'm sure he's playing with those dog's and having a great time with the gang of six.

Why are pictures happy and sad?
Can someone explain.

Thanks.

Hi Song4theMoon,

I liked this idee, may I make a sigestion? What about a new one, with the first babe photo taken of you (all members) and the first babe photo taken by the member? Or something in that line?

Ok... first might be a little uneasy for some...

That's Otto. Died November 1911. Death photos are a big part of our photographic portraiture past -- a death album (much like my great-grandmother had) plays a big part of the movie, The Others. In this case, he had never had a portrait done in life. This was printed on a Post Card, but there were a few other variations made. I've also seen a version that zoomed in on the face, colorized, and had the eyes painted on -- rather freaky photo for us kids seeing all the time!

On a happier note:

That's my Grandmother and Great-Aunt. Inscribed on the back: "Opal & Dorothy -- We're no good."

Tim great additions to this though I do feel a little uneasy about the 1st but I think its more a feeling of sadness of one so young.
I remember walking through a childs graveyard and getting the same uneasy feeling .

Tim, outstanding contributions to this thread. The first certainly is a little weird but I agree that at the time it was not unusual, and we seem to have made death much more of a taboo now than it was in the past. Having the eyes painted on is one step too far though - definitely a very freaky thing to do . The second shot is brilliant and the text on the back just makes you look at the shot in so many different ways .

Thanks. I was a little unsure how that first one would be taken. He was my great-grandmother's little brother and he meant a lot to her, that's why she kept this photo hanging in the house.

I've been scanning a lot of old photos lately. Got a big envelope of maybe 50 120 (or possibly 620? There's no film identification along the sides) negatives from the mid 40s that I got from my mother. She hasn't seen any of those photos in years -- I know she doesn't have any prints of any of them. Surprisingly great condition for where they were kept. They look practically new! Might post a few of my favorites soon. (All of them are quite alive in those pictures!)

Near the end of my scanning, found this photo of my grandparents:

Wouldn't know that he'd leave her for another woman from that...
