Congratulations on your Nikon D750. I have heard and read many good things about this camera. What made you choose the D750 instead of the D810?

Get well.

And so you chose Don Quixote as your avatar, an impulsive
soul who dives head long and feet first into almost anything
on a moments notice, usually on a poorly founded premise.

Make good on that !!!

Double +1 on the congradz !

The 610 and 750 siblings are the "Goldilocks" choice for
almost any user. IOW "Just right" .... not too "superman"
like the 810 with it's over-the-top specs, yet certainly
well separated from Nikon's "photo toy" segment [good
toys tho they may be].

Myself, I'm using a 610. The 750 is worth the few hundred
sheckels price difference for sure, a difference that was
no barrier for me .... but on the day I visited the bricks
and mortar, the 610 came with a free 28-300 and a bunch
of other goodies and the 750 did not. Given an unmuddied
choice, I'd take the 750 over the 610 anytime.

Be cool if Nikon consolidated 610/750 production line to
just the 750, dropping the 610 and lowering the 750 price
a good bit, based on the savings from consolidating
Maybe that will actually happen as the 2 versions age out.

Narsuitus - My original intent was to go with the D810. I figured if I'm going to spend that kind of cash I should get as much camera as possible to take me well into the future. Then the D750 came along. Now I had to make a choice - as with most choices there are specs the D810 has but the D750 doesn't and vice versa.

After some serious thinking and actually holding the two cameras in hand I chose the D750 the these reasons:I really don't need 36mp files - 24mp will be more than enough for me;
  • The slightly smaller size and weight - the older I get the more I appreciate small and lighter things;
  • All the reviews indicated a slight edge over the D810 in the low light category - a big improvement over my D300;
  • I'm not a video guy but look forward to experimenting;
  • The possibility of WIFI photo transfer to my phone;
  • And of course cost figured into the equation as well.
There are other reasons as well but those are the main ones. The specs of the D600/610 didn't appeal to me as other then being FF there really didn't seem to be much to offer over my D300. I really liked the specs of the Fujifilm X-T2 but needed to feed my desire to try FF. Yeah, I know I started this thread asking about adapters for Nikon to Fuji. Maybe someday I'll give the X-T2 or its progeny a try, just not right now.

Golem - My choice of Don Quixote as my avatar is meant to be a representation of how much of a lost cause I am when it comes to photography. Somehow after reading the tale I felt a kinship with the errant knight. Now if I can just locate that windmill.

I used to think I had the model delineation thing figured out but then Nikon started messing with my head. If a consolidation of models brings the cost down I'm all for it. I agree that the D610, D750, D810 fit the "Goldilocks" storyline and believe that for my amateur photography the D750 "is just right."

The weather is startingto turn more toward spring and I am hopeful warm sunshine will help me shake this leftover cough so I can get out and start learning the finer points my new toy . . . er, tool.

As always, thanks for the comments.
