I was just looking at some old photos in my pc of my now defunct F710.. I have been using my F810 more seriously now for a bit.. and it's quite fantastic. But I see these F710 images.. and.. um... MAN!
I can't take this anymore. I want SR back, for real. I was discussing with a friend the great looking DP1 images in low iso, in good light (in bad light the foveon sensor seems to have issues)... How the whites go from nicely from subdued to the over exposure in a very nice way.. smooth as silk and.. umm I see the same of the F710.... Saw the F100FS shots and I am not impressed one bit with the extra DR settings.. it's just an exposure trick. God.I want my F710 back... if I could just get one... - Raist PS: Ill post some pics later, and youll see what I mean.. it's just mindblowing. And JPEG.. hah! __________________

This is an image I took when I was doing a photography homework involving a Braun brand hand mixer. I was using my DSLR, but I took this shot with my F710. This is a jpeg, and this shot is shown in the LightZone interface, untweaked:
![]() I was commenting with a photographer students friend of mine about the new Sigma DP1 shots and how great their dynamic range is at the low iso's and in good full spectrum light. One of those things was how the whites didn't go into a sudden "digital burn." The Sigma DP1 is showing this characteristic.. which reminded me of exactly how the F710 behaved. The following shot is the F710 shot but adjusting the highlights zone in LightZone down (the brightest one down, the 2nd line from the top): ![]() If it's not so obvious yet, you can se that the line of the arc, of the mixer is not burned as the first shot suggested. Here's a 2nd LightZone additional stacked zoning making it even more obvious, that there's still usable data: ![]() Quite remarkable huh? This was a flash shot/macro shot.. a shot that easily gets burned. I really wish Fuji could give us something just like the F710 interface but perhaps a better lens that starts at 24 and goes to 32 or such.. and leave it at that.. or make it a 28 mm prime with F2.8, make it a 4 or 5 megapixel SR... (would have to be a small sensor for a lens that fast). Or try to do what Sigma is doing and put an APS-C sensor. I think it would be great, if given priority to the interface, fast operation, film simulations. - Raist |
