Minolta Lens fit on Fuji?

Forgive if this sounds stupid, but I am an amateur.

My father was telling me how he's got a Vivitar 75-300 mm lens for Minolta cameras in his cabinet and wondered if I could use it when I get a Fuji S3.

So I'm curious now. Are lenses interchangeable and I could use this? Or I need to get a lens that's specifically for Fuji or Nikon cameras?

Or do I get some kind of mount thing to put on the camera to make it work?

No, unless the Vivitar has an interchangeable mount. If it does, you can remove the Minolta mount and replace it with a Nikon mount. However, even if you could find a Nikon mount, it probably would not be worth it because the lens is probably so old that it would not take full advantage of all of the features of the S3.
