Unhappy Fuji S3 - D300

Sorry guys, was wanting to upgrade to S5 , went to my store & compared my S3 set on 800asa against the d300 same setting, auto w.b. Nikon 18-200 vr lens set @ F8. The d300 murdered the s3 in color , contrast & most of all in sharpness. I was astounded @ the quality of the d300 @ 800 asa, I blew it up to 100% & it looked better then my normal images on the s3 @ 100asa. As soon as I finish this I will try to post my samples for you to view. Have to say a big goodbyeto Fuji, I have used both the S2 & S3 for the last 7 years. Have been a professional photographer for the last 30 yrs, & have always been a fuji fan from film onto digital but I sadly have to say that I do not believe that the S5 could hold a candle against the d300. I certainly agree that it will kill the nikon on d.r. but d.r. does not give you a sharp photograph & 90% of the public do not even know what d.r. is but they can tell a sharp pic from soft.

really it is to be expected. the age difference is way to much. the d300 looks to be a great upgrade for F mount cameras.

Just before the new year, I went into a camera shop with a Nikon lens, a CompacFlash memory card, and a laptop computer. I took a used Fuji S5 off the shelf and a new Nikon D300 out of the box and took a few test shots. Both cameras performed well and felt good in my hands. However, I preferred the warmer images of the S5 to the cooler images of the D300. I walked out the store (after paying for it) with the S5.
