Default Consensus: S3 vs S5....

I just want to double check- what's the low down on the image quality- the S5 does it better than the S3 or not after all?

I have read and seen what seems to be mixed evidence. Seems like the S5 holds better for some things and the S3 may hold better for others. I know I like how the S5 seems to have eliminated the moire patterns that the S3 sometimes captured.

Any comments?

I am waiting for the final E-3 of Olympus and depending on what exactly shows up, I may actually seriously consider buying an S3 or even S5. I will say upfront this probably won't happen, but I am looking for a very specific thing on the E-3 and if the E-3 doesn't quite have it, I may consider putting that money on the Fuji side.

- Raist

(which means I would have dual systems.. which I kinda hate. GRRR)

You right about moire, but it is in trade of sharpness - a little bit. Dimitri.

to be honest. i dont think that there is much of a difference between the 2. when i saw the review photos from the s5 i was shocked. those were the worse pics i have seen from a dslr. i would not use the review pics as a reference.

I do school photography and wedding photography. The S2 to me still yields the best looking jpeg pic out of the camera. I currently shoot with a stable of S3 bodies. The "quality" of the S5 pic does not appear to be better for my school photography biz, but the barcode input intriques me. For weddings, the (auto) white balance is probably better. I don't really care about the increased electronic flash possibilities for the S5, I shoot with manual flash (sb800 & vivitar 283/285) or on auto thyristor mode.

I am in the evaluation stage for purchasing a couple more dslr kits for next year (gor another employee or partner to use). For the money I may buy three S2 bodies or one S5 body... or maybe another S3. It's difficult to make the decision.
