i havethe tamron f2.8, but it hunts a lot in low light on my S3. it also allows me to go wider than 42 effective. This will replace my 18-125 for wide shots.

That, and there is a world of difference between 18 and 28, and add to that the fast aperture. Also, I'm thinking there is less compromise in a constant aperture 18-50 zoom than a 18-125 super zoom.

yes, the 18-125 does have distortion issues. it does work great at night. i have run into situations where my 28 is just not wide enough. i am also upgrading my lens package from a mix of consumer and prosumer lenses to prosumer and up. i hope it lives up to my expectations and can focus at night
