Default firewire connecton?

The IEEE1394 firewire connector on my laptop is the same size as the one on my S2 Pro and not the larger type as on the supplied cable, is it possible to obtain and use an alternative cable with two smaller connections.

Yes, you need a 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable like this one: Belkin | FireWire 4-pin to 4-pin DV Cable - 3 ft | F3N402-03-ICE

Thanks Bob, I assume there's no compatibility issues exchanging the 6 pin connector with a 4 pin one.

Nope. It should work exactly the same. I believe the other two pins provide power for powered firewire devices.

Speaking of firewire on the S2, I just tried to tether my wife's S2 and the computer didn't "see" it . I use a IEEE1394 4-pin wire both to the camera and the ACER laptop. I use the Hyper Utility Software and followed all the directions except the ones that say to use AC adapters.

Any other suggestions?

Can anyone confirm the above as I've also had problems with my laptop not communicating with my S2, Not sure whether it's down to the 4-4 pin firewire cable, not using an AC adaptor, or that I'm running HS-V2 (version 3.1) on Windows Vista.

Ok! On checking the S2 manual it seems that Fuji only recommend using the AC adaptor to prevent data loss due to battery exhaustion.

I've purchased the AC adaptor and it makes no difference, As I'm running windows Vista I've also ordered an upgrade to Hyperutility Ver.3.0 which is apparently the only version which is compatible with Vista.

kgphoto, have you found a solution yet? what OS are you running on the laptop and what version of Hyperutility are you using?

Ok I'm now pulling my hair out with this problem, I've just paid another £50.00 ($100) to upgrade from HU Ver 2.0, to Ver 3.0 as I'm running Vista.

The camera (S2) is set to iee1394 shooting mode and when switched on the Fuji S2 driver appears in windows device manager, however when I select camera or PC shooting in HU a window pops up stating it cannot connect to the camera.

I'm running HU on a laptop with an Intel core 2 T7200 @ 2.00GHz, 2.00GHz processor, 2 GB Ram and 400Gb hard drive with Windows Vista Premium.

I may have an event coming up shortly and it's vital that I get this sorted as soon as possible, therefore any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Alan

Edit: Ok I think I've solved the problem, I deleted & re-installed the S2 driver and noticed that when re-installed it had it's own directory in device manager, whereas the original S2 driver was listed as a subdirectory to IEEE1394 devices. Anyway everything seems to be working fine now.

Thanks

Alan
