could be numberous things .. first i would resset the camera to factory standard .
normally you press the shutter halfway and look in the viewfinder for a mostly green dot to tell you that a subject is in focus, then you fully drepress the shutter and presto the image is recorded . But if you assigned af to a special button (do not know if the HX 20 can do that) than you probably will have to press the af buton or programable button and then the full shutter button. but that is all my guess and 0.0000002 euro ct of opinoun |

What lighting conditions are you shooting in? As a HS20 owner, I find that good results are in sunlight/cloudy bright ie f8 or more. My camera was set to af-s by default. There is also the option for centre or tracking in af mode.
Could your shots be affected by camera shake, have noted it having obtained a raynox 1.85 T/C which means I have a total range of 24 (without T/C) to 1332 (Max xoom with T/C) mm. Might be an idea to post some samples |

MILLION thanx Guys!
![]() I'll bet that could be the problem..... I had it on AF-C so I have now set it to AF-S. ![]() I also reset to factory before that just in case I messed with something else I shouldn't have. Next few days I'll try these settings and let ya know how I made out. |

with AF-S there is autofocus or not , normally af can be longer than with af-c AF-C is only to be advised when photographing sports and you want to follow the object to a certain point and depress (shutter) when that point is reached |

Well It depends on the camera i'll guess (don't have the HX 20) but generally it works with birds this way
AF-C mode (looking through the viewfinder ) half press the shutter and track the bird to a place where you want to take the picture and there full press and you should have some nice action in it |

Aim to get the birds eye as the focal point of your shot, the best birds shots generally have eye contact __________________
