I get the impression the friinging he mentioned is probably a combination of jpeg/lens artiface that just gets super enchanced by blowing the image up. As for the softness, I think it's just the issue of having a 6 megapixel camera try to go for that high resolution of print. I sense some hard times for Fuji ahead.... but it all goes back to price. - Raist __________________

Reichman down on Fuji S5 Pro, this from the guy who reviews lenses with out trying them.
i am so surprised. onething that struck me about his vid clip is he seemed down on them from the beginning. he has never liked anything but canon cameras. so we have 2 companies trying something different. he gives the impression that they would best be served if they played follow the leader. if reichman doesnt understand it its bad. i know a few of the sigma guys that filled their cf cards at photokina and they love what they are seeing. the sd14 is a good step up from the sd10, yes it still lags behind the latest and greatest releases from canon and nikon. as sigma steps up and gets better bodies and stuff the gap will narrow. as for fuji, the s5 comes down to price. then fuji needs to get into a 12-18month rplacement schedule. they also need to go to a multi body line up. i think fuji would like the s5 to price higher than the s3 uvir, but it really cant. now a s5 uvir can. |

this was noted. the pic he was trashing was a s9600 pic. seems he cant read. the s9600 lens does have fringing.
In the Video Blog about the Fuji booth in Photokina, Mr Reichmann and his friend Walter are pointing out the poor image quality of the prints from the S5 pro At first they speak about the soft look of couple of prints where there is a bride, but than they are also heavily criticizing other pictures that in fact do not belongs to the S5 but to the S 9600!!! If you pay close attention you will see that in the video at a certain point you will read the Logo S 9600 just on those prints, you can also recognize the same picture at this link http://www.fujifilm.com/products/dig...600/index.html To me this it looks just very unprofessional |

You know, I gotta admit to you that I have seen Reichman make mistakes- like the way he reviewed the S3 DR was *completely* wrong. I do give him credit when talking about nuances of a camera interface when he uses it (like the Panasonic Lumix DSLR).
Is it confirmed it was indeed the 9600- ? That's pretty sad for him if it is. If I was Fuji I would send him a friendly reminder, and dare to speak out publicly on the issue if he doesn't retract (not sue him though). However, the images he did comment on softness (or let's say not him but his "buddy) are clearly labeled Fuji S5 Pro. I can only imagine again this has to do with the resolution and the size the prints were made at. I know the E-1 can still hold detail (good detail) at 12x18 but above that while you can make it you start losing some detail (aka soft). - Raist |

Kev, thanks for pointing out that. Just read some DPreview comments. From now on I think I will trust Reichman only on comments he makes on usability of cameras he tries - the stuff he uncovered on the Panasonic seemed reasonable. He also critiziced the Rebel XT (the 350D)'s interface in ways that I could see would be a problem.
I like the subjective review he does *when he uses the equipment* as it uncovers useful information and I can take that information and make a decision with it (contrary to the near pure technically of Phil Askey). Both approaches complement each other. - Raist |

he reviewed a lens once and totally trashed it. after a pretty spirited debate he admitted to never have touched the lens.
there wre a lot of upset people over that. i know that dirk and leen were at photokina and stated the S5 picks were "amazing" and "incredible". i have seen enought of their work to trust it. thats why i find reichmans comments so odd. __________________
