Ha! I think this forum was created by people who had been banned at one timre or another on dpreview.

Kind of like the original U.S. settlers being largely made up of ex-cons from England, etc.

Thats really weird. I know its not hard to get banned at dpreview, but you were always polite. Hopefully you will be reinstated. There is a thread over there right now asking Phil to let you back.

you have to becareful of posting other site on dp. i think its a banning offense. or they frown on it a lot.

actually the southern states were populated that way. Georgia actually comes to mind as a penal colony

The trouble with dpreview is that you can go there and express your opinion in a perfectly rational way, have the "in" gang over there gang up on you, calling you a "troll," and then you end up getting banned if you try to defend your position. So essentially a "troll" there is anyone who expresses an opinion that is not glowing about a particular brand. It's not a freedom of speech board. It's a freedom of speech board only if your speech happens to agree with the majority.

I've seen it happen more than a few times. A few forums could be started just from the very good photographers that dpreview has banned.

albert, the nice thing about the fuji forum is we usually tollerate the wandering trolls. as have been stated, i really dont get into a tiff with them. that why i do not know why i am banned. i might have been over some ftp info i posted. but yet that thread did not get pulled.

DPReview posters don't just push the limit when it calls people "trolls"; I doubt many of them know what an internet "troll" actually is. *Many of the people banned for "trolling" are perfectly fine members, IMHO. *Like AlbertP offered, anyone who criticizes someone's favorite brand with/without an established post history is suddenly a "troll". *I've been members of boards which stipulated as one of the rules, "No trolling", but I recall only one member was banned, and he was given a lot of leeway.

You have to remember that message boards are private property. *The owner can do whatever the hell he or she wants. *Honestly, a lot of the things I say here would get me banned from certain boards, which is probably why I'm here and no longer there. *=)

You know, the great thing about this forum is that I've never once heard anyone call anyone else a troll. I think the folks here are photographers first and gear collectors second. So if someone says "Canon sucks," you're likely to get, "true, but why do you think that?" rather than "troll!"

This is no doubt a liberal board compared to any other I've been on. That's probably why I'm still here. With weirdos like that 60s-looking bearded Blinky as moderators--and this guy named Badpick with Reagan hitting himself in the forehead as an avatar--how can you go wrong?

I think it's because we've never had a real, bona fide troll. Everyone here raises real concerns about things they don't like. I don't think there's anyone here out to get at anyone, annoy people, whatever. Some members are more aggresive than others, but that's just real life.

i might have been banned because of a joke that got played on me. i use the name bacpickev, cause i am not a pro and my pics are not the best. in truth they are not that bad at times. a poster that i admire and respect posted that phil should ban the name badpickev as it does not apply to me anymore.

i really wonder if phil did that. if he did, it would have been nice to know it. i could be known as not so badpic kev. if this is what really happened it would be so funny.
