I've just received my om-4/3 adapter and finally had the opportunity to use the old OM 50mm lens! I found this lens so wonderful, just perfect for portraits and so cheap: the lens were 25euro and the adapter 15euro, so I got them under 50euro (just crazy)!!! Here are 2 pictures that I've just taken with it!

The OM 50mm f1.8 is a wonderful lens, I had one which came with my OM1n in 1977 and always produced quality images.

There were at least 5 different versions of the OM 50, including ones with f/1.2, f/1.4, f/1.8, f/2, f/3.5 macro...there was even several versions of the f/1.8 including one the newer 6 elements in 4 groups, and the older 6 elements in 5 groups:
Olympus Zuiko Standard Lenses at 50mm - Part III I'd really like to get my hands on the f/1.2; I got the original Olympus OM adapter that they gave away for free in the early days of the E-1 and E-300, and even own a 60-300mm in OM instead of buying the FourThirds version. I also have a T-mount adapter (made for telescopes) and I have a 400mm prime and a 500mm mirror reflex (catadioptric) lens in that mount. |

The f1.2 was a 55mm not a 50mm and my 50mm f1.8 in 1977 was multi-coated despite the fact that it had no MC identification.

I have the 50mm 1.4 and with the OM to 4/3's crop factor it is a good portrait lens....just that there is no Auto focus. I also have the 300mm as well as a Sigma 600 f-8 mirror....both sharp when you have the time to spend focusing. Love the E-3 and it just expands the abilities using the OM glass as well as the E-glass

The E3 has a biger view finder, so it is easyer to manual focus with it. I have an E410 (small view finder) and I have some problems manual focusing at f1.8 and I guess it will be harder at f1.4 so I will have a bigger chance to miss the focus! But the bokeh is nice at f1.8 and I am totaly satisfied with this lens sharpness and I love the contrast!

I too have the 50 F1.8 legacy Zuiko Lens. I like the results with my E-3 but sure would like to see some comparisons with the 50 F1.4 lens.

I purchased a 50mm f2.0 Sigma macro lens with adapter in July. This gave unbelievable photos at 2:1 manual focus of course. It was a fantastic lens. Unfortunatly I knocked the camera and the screws in the adapter were a little short and the adapter came appart. One of the screws dropped into the lens. Sigma said it was unrepairable as they had no one old enough to remember the lens. I decided to see if I could fix it. I stripped the lens found the offending screw and although I have managed to reassemble it a couple of times now I cannot figure the starting positions for the interlocking focusing rings and either the internal lens falls off or the external barrel.
I think I have given up now as I managed to purchase the Zukio digital 35mm macro from PC World for just less than £100.00. The sigma is still sadly missed RIP! |

Wrote to Sigma in Japan on the off chance. They replied via Sigma UK saying that they had no diagrams or any way of reassembling the lens but as a gesture of goodwill they would part ex the old lens for the nearest brand new one in their range.
What an amazing response. Just got to dind the dosh now! |

Hah, just saw this.
Are these JPEGS? The cat shot in particular looks so filmy to me. - Raist __________________
