It used to be with film cameras people were interested in what type of shutter their cameras had. Nikon used to make a big thing about their vertical travel metal titanium shutters, while Olympus OM cameras still had horizontal travel cloth ones.
With all the hype about pixels, the sensors, etc., no one ever seems to talk about shutters anymore now. Does anyone know what type of shutters the E-1 and E-300 have? __________________

The only description I've found is that it's an 'electronic controlled focal plane shutter'. Wait - just found this snippet on the Olympus site:
"Designed to stand up to the heaviest professional usage, the E-1's extremely durable vertical-travel, metal focal-plane shutter has been tested under Olympus’s standard testing conditions of over 150,000 releases. Shutter speed precision is assured every time across a wide range from 1/4000 sec. to 60 sec. An Anti-Shock function is also provided, allowing you to set the camera so that the shutter is not released until after the vibrations caused by the mirror up have stopped." which I guess makes it similar to the Nikon technique. I've only had an E-1 for a very short time, but the first thing that's really impressed me is the silky smooth shutter release. I have an OM4ti and always thought that was slick, but the E-1 is something else. |

Thanks. I was hoping so as most other dSLR (especially non-pro) seem to be in the 50,000 click range.
