I seem to be at family weddings every other week at the moment. I thought some may be interested in seeing how the E-400 + 50mm f/2 lens coped in this situation. I decided to use the E-400 rather than the E-3 purely based on ease of use, but in the end the image quality is at least as good, and you can shoot one handed with ease
.Typical English 'summer' weather - i.e. very wet. The E-400 seemed to cope despite the lack of weather sealing .Also, the official photographer at the wedding was shooting with an E-3, and a Canon 5D. He was eulogising his E-1, but he didn't use it these days due to poor high ISO performance - which is important in a country where we seem to have lost the sun for the last few months .Sister of the bride Image control: Zoom out | Zoom 100% | Zoom in | Expand / Contract | New window ![]() ![]() ![]() Bride and groom Image control: Zoom out | Zoom 100% | Zoom in | Expand / Contract | New window ![]() ![]() ![]() Image control: Zoom out | Zoom 100% | Zoom in | Expand / Contract | New window ![]() ![]() ![]() Cousin of the bride (and my son ) Image control: Zoom out | Zoom 100% | Zoom in | Expand / Contract | New window ![]() ![]() ![]() Father of the bride Image control: Zoom out | Zoom 100% | Zoom in | Expand / Contract | New window ![]() ![]() ![]() __________________

Excellent examples of a simple and very effective combo. Olympus power is there.
And dang you. I just got done making out my switch to Canon shopping list, and you posted this. Guess I wasted a piece of paper. |

A nice description - simple and effective. I took most of my shots with one hand, with the umbrella in the other. I doubt if I'd have managed quite so well with the E-3/5D.
So how's your shopping list going? I'm always interested in what new stuff is coming out, and one day (maybe) a FF sensor will be in my sights again. Currently not missing it though. The Micro 4:3rds stuff is the most interesting thing happening right now. Hopefully we'll see some actual models at Photokina this month. |

I threw my shopping list away
![]() Micro 4/3's is interesting and might be the big "story" that doesn't have an ending yet. Other one is the "Canon Evolution" (5D MkII or 7D (my bet)). The D700 was big, but it is answered, and well I'd say. Olympus is behind in the big sensor race, and not surprising. It has its strengths though. Images like the ones above help. |

Nice series, Paul, really shows the best side of the 50F2.0, indeed softening on some portraits might be advisable...
Kindest regards! Max@Home |

Great photos! The infamous 50mm lens for Olympus ... I have read about that.
So what is all this "micro 4/3" business I keep hearing about? The term implies you guys want cameras that are physically smaller ... is it true? Tiny cameras like cell phones? Do we really need that? Isn't it a large camera that makes us look so much cooler than the masses ? ![]() I'm waiting for the "mega" rather than the "micro" ! The "ultra 4/3" ! Cheers, Craig |

I'm happy with the size of the E-1/E-3 personally. I think the most interesting thing about the micro 4:3rds concept is the removal of the mirror. This should make for some very small and very high quality lens designs. Anything much smaller than an E-400/E-410 may be a bit too small for comfort - particularly if you mount one of the big and heavy f/2 lenses
