Video Output Question-Newbie

Am new to the E-1 as of last night. I've got a quick question regarding video output that I haven't found in the documentation, and I don't want to experiment until I have some direction. Will the video output send a signal of subject before actual recording? I would like to use the camera for microscopy and it would be great to be able to compose and focus from a vid-monitor rather than through the microscope eyepiece or camera. Well, after looking at the documentation it appears that since there's no real-time display on the camera monitor, that there is no vid signal present until playback - duh! I guess if I'd thought about the fact that there's a mirror in the way I could have answered my own question... :

Mabye something OLY could add in the future: mirror lock-up with real-time vid output when under AC power. Would be great for technical photography.
