Default e-520 is officially announced...

dcresource has a preview, dpreview has also the prez release, and many other sites.

It's pretty much what the e-420 was to the e-410. Same sensor, you can fix the IS in the X axis now too. Haven't read all the other improvements, you get a bigger LCD/ better LCD (like the e-420). Looks virtually identical to the e-510.

The other big news is the delayed- final announcement of the new standard grade 9-18mm ultrawide lens, shipping in September at $600. It's light, small for what it is and F4.0- F5.6. That's 18-36mm in 35mm equiv. Can use the 1.4x teleconverter and 2.0x.

I think that lens is going to sell quite a bit.

Looks like as expected. I think the new 9-18mm lens should be very useful for those who don't want to go into the expense of the 7-14mm. The slow aperture shouldn't be much of a problem at the wide end, and it certainly will be a lot lighter and cheaper.

it looks like this camera will fix many of the issues people have had with 510
and add some new features and benefits to boot. Tis a pity though, that 510 owners never got remapped jpeg curves with better roll-off in a firmware fix.

the UWA lens is really very welcome and seems to be cheap, could this mean that 7-14 will fall in price too ? The 9-18 offers near 88 degrees horizontal FOV and greatly improves the range of 'low-cost utility end' lenses.

ive had a silly smile on my face all day

if the genie offered two more wishes, i would be looking for E-30 and a portrait solution lens, then my world would be complete

Good thing that this lens can use the TCs. I cannot wait to stack a 2.0 converter on this to make a bulky 20 element 18-36 (36-72 film equivalent FOV) f8~11 lens.

I don't think this means the 7-14 falls in price. I think it simply means now we have a choice: cheap or expensive.

I also don't see the 8-16 affecting the price of the 7-14 -- it won't increase the number being sold second-hand, and it simply completes the three tiers. Although I wish the 14-42 had made the 14-35 cheaper...

And I have used the 7-14 with the 1.4TC.
