I found this interesting- someone posted that the e-410 color doesn't really differ all that much from the E-1. What I like the most is that he backed it up with photos. I wonder though how they would look near 100% as the E-1 has this nice texture.. but I think the others do too, though perhaps with the new zero noise redux a tad different.

For what it's worth I've always thought Panasonic's range of compacts have the most visually appealing colour, though like the Kodak sensor, somewhat noisy. Perhaps manufacturing a sensor with low noise and impressive colour fidelity isn't currently an option.

Can't fault the colour rendition in that pic - the greens and blues are spot on. I very nearly bought a FZ-30, but saw the light when I saw the E-300 discounted for less!
I find getting the exposure and WB right is very helpful on the E-300 as regards to the red (magenta?) bias. The only time I shoot jpeg is when I use flash as it gets it all correct, everything else goes to RAW. |

All I can recall is that the only non-Kodak Oly cam I had was the E-330 and I thought it didn't have the same colour range as the E-1. The E-400 is fairly similar to the E-1, and has an obvious bonus in detail - really does stand out.
I have nothing against the MOS type sensors (I use a Canon 5D and it's great), but I do see something in the E-1 (and slightly less so in the E-400) that does stand out compared to the E-330 or the 5D for that matter. A lot of it may just be the RAW processing engine, and I'm not going to analyse it too deeply, but it does exist in my eyes. I agree with Riley about the red bias - it's quite obvious in the E-1. It also does brilliantly blue skies too though so it's not like a permanent red shift across the image. Whatever it is, Olympus should bottle it up as a style and make it available in any cam they release in the future. For portraits especially it's as good as I've ever seen. |

There's no denying the sharpness and detail from that lens! It does have a slight magenta bias though, perhaps from the AutoWB?
I took the liberty of running it through ColorWasher to remove the cast, though I think any improvement is arguable: |
