It is via an adapter. The flange distance on a traditional slr is greater than on a mirrorless. This is a good thing though. What that means is that there is less distance between the rear elements of the lens and the capture surface which is in this case a digital sensor. This allows for the room of an adapter between the lens and the camera, since your om lenses are designed to have more space between the lens and the capture surface than there is in a mirrorless camera. You still have to manual focus though.

Had a Canon G11 stolen recently and replaced it with an OMD. My 1st couple of pics. You know those pics that you just take of anything, just can't be still

I also got an OMD and am LOVING it!
![]() The zooms are surprisingly sharp for cheap glass (14-42 & 40-150). I bought a 45/1.8 which is great and have a 25/1.4 on the way. A friend bought one as well. He got a Nokton 17.5mm F0.95 and it is pretty amazing too! 6" MFD from the sensor!! |

Got mine in black. Also bought the grip and have the following lenses:
Sweet camera. And, I did sell my Nikon D300 DX lenses! I still have 30-year old Nikon lenses and might get a D600, but for now, I'm going to make this Olympus my main squeeze. |

Been off the forums lately due to playing with my new toy - an OMD. Love the quality, touchscreen etc but HATE the amount of purple fringing! Removing CA in ACR gets rid of most ... usually. Then remove noise filter in PS helps a bit more. But sometimes it's impossible to get rid of. Any ideas? I'm using the lenses from my Lumix GF1 - the 20mm and the kit 14 45. Both are as bad as each other. And I rather resent having to 'rescue' pictures in this way with a camera that wasn't exactly cheap. I had no such problem with these lenses on the GF1.

The CA is a fact of life when using Panasonic MFT lenses on Olympus cameras. Panasonic corrects for lateral CA in camera but Olympus does not, so all you see in jpgs, photoshop, or lightroom with a Panasonic camera is the longitudinal CA, which is usually minimal. If you use Lightroom and shoot in RAW, as I do, then the CA is no problem on Olympus cameras, because you can set up lightroom to automatically remove lateral CA when imported.

I wish I had known (noticed) this before....
Just hope a firmware will deal with it at some point. Reluctant to spend money on LR when I already have PS. But just thinking..... If I changed, especially, the Panasonic 14 45 kit lens for the Oly 12 50, can take it that the latter would not suffer from CA? I have somebody who was interested in it a while back. Though I seem to recall that reviews for the Oly are not that great... Opinions much appreciated! |
