Olympus reports strong profits!

"TOKYO, Oct 27 (Reuters) - Japan's Olympus Corp. said on Friday it likely beat its first-half operating profit forecast by about 62 percent and blew past market estimates thanks to strong sales of digital cameras and endoscopes and a weaker yen.

Olympus, the world's fourth-largest digital camera maker and the top producer of endoscopes, said it now expects to post a group operating profit of 42 billion yen ($354.6 million) for April-September, up 16 billion yen from its prior forecast. "

I have to point out at the oh so many naysayers in other forums, that were oh so sure Olympus was in financial trouble. Note they do give credit to their digital cameras so it's not all endoscopes. Olympus has continously re-affirmed their commitment to 4/3rds so hopefully a lot with STFU for a while. So many were oh so convinced of "what Olympus should be doing." Of course, this is not a ra-ra koolaiding from me, but more pointing out at faulty logic in general. This instance is just convenient because those naysayers were oh, so wrong.

That's good news. As I'm currently offloading all my Canon gear (5D + some great lenses) and consolidating on Oly it's nice to know that they are finanically viable .

I've been buying some non-photographic stuff for my other interests and needed to recoup some of my spending... The 5D's a great camera - much better image quality (or at least resolution) than the E-1 it has to be said. I just need to rationalise down to one system. I also have many more ZD lenses than Canon EF lenses, so that helped to sway it. I'd also get my money back selling the Canon stuff compared with the Oly kit, so laziness and greediness won in the end .

Now I'm looking forward to what Olympus put out next year - can't wait to see the E-1 replacement .
