Default Flora outing this morning...4 images

I had the chance to head out of the house this morning (yesterday birds today flowers) darn the luck. I do not have a macro lens but used the 40-150 and OM 50mm 1.8. The 40-150 did well even though it's min focusing distance is miles away. The OM 50mm also did a fine job although differently. I have always seen macro photography as being all inclusive of the subject, you know deep DOF to keep the entire subject in focus. However, this morning I thought I would try something a little different and go for a little ethereal look by taking advantage of the shallow DOF. Hope you like them....

This is with the 40-150

The following are with the 50mm 1.8

The third one is my favorite with its "vibrating" leaves that go out of field.... it's an interesting background. The first I like, the last I am not sure. The 2nd I find kind of weird in that the background seems like is behind glass? Like the subject was inside a fishtank? Seems to show "dirt" of the glass in the background.... (not saying this is what it is, just that it just looks that way.)

Hello Jeff & thanks for sharing. Looks like you had some fun for yourself going out and creating images--good job. My favorite is the second pic--nice background pattern & soft color with the foreground.

ACK, correction: I meant the 2nd one. Swap the 3rd with the 2nd and you get what I wanted to write

Yep, definitely something about the second one. Nice use of new and old technology

Thanks all, the BG of the third is actually in a rain forest tye setting, that is mist falling down behind with backlight. However in hind-sight I can see it looking fairly odd.

They're ALL good. I sure wish Olympus would hurry up and send my OM converter so I can try out my 1.8's.

I think the old 1.8 in particular does have a nice 'bokeh' effect - no doubt partly due to it's fairly wide apeture. There's a pic I posted here that shows similar characteristics. It's a touchy subject though - some people really don't see the facination with out of focus parts of the image.

I think that is a great shot Pavel, I love the colors. I love the bokeh that this lens puts out, here is a portrait of my wife and a friend of hers that was visiting. This was with the 50mm 1.8 wide open.

All wonderful images. Some of these should have been in the contest.

I like that second one. It looks like one of those light things where they have the plastic filaments or whatever they are that you can see light come out the tips...were popular YEARS ago, but you can still find them. The background almost makes me dizzy, it seems to be moving. Very nice.
