Default First Wedding Pics

Hello everyone,

Saturday, I took pics of my nephews wedding with the E-1 and FL-36.* First time for me and I thought they came out well.* The FL-36 worked great, but at times recycling was not acceptable.* I'm glad I don't have to do this for a living doing this--hard work.* The wedding was great, had a great time and the more I drank the more I snapped--happy I don't have to pay for film* <|8^)*

Thanks for looking!

Very nice. I am a big fan of the non traditionally posed wedding shots. The candid nature of the two you posted make them nice to look at. The exposure is nicely done and they look like they have been processed properly. I have heard the recycle time of the FL36 is a little long so I am considering the Fl50 for that reason. Thanks for sharing.

Hi John. I read somewhere that if you use very high drain NimHi's the recycling time of the FL-36 reduces significantlly. Apparently the best is the Maha rated 2500mh as apparently the batteries score about 2600-2670! I have not tried this myself so take it with a huge truck of salt. I want to get some higher drain batteries to do the test.

Thanks for viewing and nice comments--I appreciate that you took the time to make remarks. I like the FL-36 allot, but if I had to do weddings, which I don't, I would get the FL-50 and the battery pack or whatever. Thanks for the suggestion on the batteries, I was using 2300mh, but again at times the recycle time was unacceptable.

Thank you . . . John from little Rhody

I've noticed the recycle time issue with my fl-36. Maybe for a long shoot you just need to keep popping in freshly-charged batteries (like using a compact camera)? Certainly I start each shoot with a fresh pair. I think the fl-50 takes four batteries rather than two but then I assume that means that it weighs more and is less compact (but maybe has more power to boot)? I like the way you can put the fl-36 in manual mode and quickly dial the power up and down as needed. At first I didn't think it swivelled side-to-side (just up and down) but I recently discovered the button for that (right above the lcd). Here's a shot of the fl-36 (on the e-300) for folks who haven't seen it before:

Yes, I agree about the fresh batteries for the fl-36. Although I did use 3 sets of batteries, at times the recycling was still unacceptable. I should mention that I also used the flash for all outside shoots for fill flash and I was very pleased! At the reception the lighting was low and the auto focus worked well. I shot about 225 pics. I have 5 gigs of memory (2-2GB & 1-1GB) for the E-1 and shoot everything in raw. I used 1--2GB card and about 30 pics on the second 2GB card. I had allot of fun at my nephew's wedding, but I am happy that I earn my "bread & butter" doing something else ;^ }

If i needed it for work I would definitely go with the fl50, great power, and very fast recycle times. It is substantially bigger although.
