I look at these threads (4/3rds) on a regular basis and I have noticed that there may be up to perhaps 13 people on board and yet the postings are few and far apart. I also am a member at fourthirdsphoto and I have noticed that it is not as busy as it once was which makes me wonder if the umph of the Oly is on a downward trend. I have been a fan of Oly since the E/10/20, E-1 and then I moved to the E-3 sight unseen. That was a grave mistake for me because on my recent trip to the UK I found the combo of the body and new lens to be much to heavy for me so, on my return I sold it and now I a waiting to see what Oly are going to present to the market at Photokina. There is no question in my mind that the E-3 is a great camera and the lens is fast and sharp but it takes a much younger person than me to handle it.
Just the ramblings of an old man! __________________

Hey old man
Long time no see. Anyway, some of what you said is true. The E-3 loaded with a lens can be heavy for some. Throw on a battery grip and/or a flash unit and holy cow it gets heavy. But it takes some fine images and is a joy to use. E-1 might feel better, but E-3 is a pretty darn good substitute. Anyway, the E-520 with its IS is a very good alternative, and the E-420 is a pretty good one too. Different cameras for different people or shooting styles or budgets. All good stuff from Olympus. Their new talk of the Micro 4/3's could be an interesting thing to watch for and see what happens. Might be a good deal for you...? Smaller and such, but still an Olympus and it should be a good alternative to the bigger units. We shall see. I'm not sure the Olympus deal is dead yet........... |

May not post much here, but really like my E500. In a few months it may become my backup to an E520. Have used friend's Canons, Nikons, and Fujis. All good cameras. Still there is something about Oly.....

I guess I'm really quite contented with my Panasonic L10, so I don't post that much. On the other hand, I can't really say all that much about Olympus cameras, since I don't have one...
I got more complaints on other dSLR for sure . The Panasonic pretty much does what I want it to do. Cheers, Sean. |

I agree that the 520 would be a great substitute but it does not have that quality feel the E-1 had .... oh if only they had squeezed the guts of the 510 into the body of the E-1!! Oh well, I will be shooting again and it will be Olympus for sure.
Thanks all for your interest. |

Did you get rid of your E-1 Bill? If so, ouch....
I think the E-520 is built pretty good, but it doesn't have quite the "feel" of the E-1 or the E-3, and to me the E-1 does still "feel" better than the E-3. Just something about it. Like a worn out pair of jeans or shoes, I guess. Some people are hoping that when they pump out the Micro 4/3 bodies, that one of the them will be "rugged". That would be nice to see...so we shall wait. Until then, any Olympus is a good Olympus. Pull out an E-1, or E-10 or E-20 and shoot a few to stay in shape ![]() |

I'd love to get more 4:3rds interest here too Bill. It's difficult due to the broad range of topics that can be posted on the Camel, but if you can get a few fellow Oly shooters to join in then I think it could get quite interesting
. Lots of potential here. |

Can we bash Canon and Nikon in here? Maybe that will help...
