- The lens is "big" but it's not really that big. I find it a great match to the e-420. Imagine a thicker 14-54 but shorter. - Fly by wire focusing feels pretty good.
- The lens as expected is very fast. I am shooting at 1/40-1/60 in places I know my 14-54 would have dragged me into the 1/10's. This is a key reason why I got it and I am quite satisfied on that end. Combined with an e-5xx or E-3 due to the image stabilization, while not a zoom, it should give my guess 2 fairly solid stops. Works pretty good on the e-420 of course. - Contrast with the light is really good. So is the sharpness although doesn't feel to me say as "tack sharp" as that F2.0 14-35, but at the same time it's not like it's blurry but more like really "good quality pixels". It's hard to explain- it's not that the lens is soft, it's that you get all the detail but without feeling pixel-digital. It looks pretty good. - Colors seem a notch different from the usual Olympus somehow (hard to describe) but they are still there. I am talking about JPEGS. - The lens feels "class" (i..e well built). - I noticed very little chromatic aberrations/purple fringing, but had to look for them and this was at F1.4 wide open! That is simply an outstanding performance. It has less noticeable fringing than the F2.0 50mm at F2.0. - The lens focuses fast, I would say like the 14-54. - I was able to lock auto focus with the e-420 in lower light, where I know it would have given a bit of more trouble. - The lens comes with the lens bag and hood. The plastic cap feels somehow better than the Olympus one. - The Aperture ring doesn't work on the Olympus cameras. Would be nice if Olympus talked w/ Panasonic to support it, but no biggie. |
