Default 2,0 50 Macro and Summilux D as portrait lens

Hello Camels,

thought I post two recent portrait pix. The night-portrait is done with the 2,0 50mm Olympus lens (fully open) at 400ASA. We used a tripod there. The building behind is Singapore's Explanade (Theatre at Marina Bay).

The other pic was taken at Coffee Bean with the PanaLeica Summilux 1,4 25mm lens (fully open & handheld).

Together with the Pana L10 camera those two primes make a smart combination, as I can focus it very accurately wide open. So I get selectively focused pictures with nice blurred out backgrounds. And yes the 4/3 system is still very capable in this respect.

Cheers, Sean.

Thanks. I throw in one more (taken with the Summilux)! Enjoy, Sean.

I like the first though a bit dark. I like the 2nd though the elbow is cut on the left. And I like the third though the hand no the right is a bit close to the end of the frame but it's ok.

Yeah, 4/3rds can do shallow DOF if you use the right lens or zoom appropriately - or perhaps equally important- you watch your distance to subject. Many people don't notice that a lot of 4/3rd lenses allow for closer focusing distance to subject than some of the competitors, so you can still get that shallow DOF.

BTW, if I may ask, how did you end up in Singapur?

I think these are posted more for their look at the lens wide-open on the 4/3 format. And for that, these show a VERY good quality that can come from the 4/3 cameras. For that, you done very well.

I'm still struggling a little bit with the 1,33 aspect ratio - something to get used too. My D200 has also educated me to frame (too) tightly, as that one doesn't have a 100% viewfinder. These are the two framing issues I have to overcome.

I must assume that the framing of the 3rd shot is a bit weird with the 1,33 aspect ratio. It was specifically shot to be printed in A4 (210 X 297mm), where I cropped from the top. I guess I should have tilted the camera down a bit for the 1,33 ratio of the camera. On the print the hand is indeed quite close to the picture border.

Generally the 1st & 2nd shot are not my favourites, which is more due to the face expression of my model. My boy was quite tired for the night shot .

Thanks for your feedback. Cheers, Sean.
