Here's a quick comparison photo that I dod to see how the size of the E-420 with the 25mm lens compares to the E-510 with the 14-42. It's not 100% accurate, but it should be 'close enough' for now. The published difference in width is only one-quarter of an inch, but I tried to keep the components in scale instead of matching the overall dimensions. I suspect that the impression of the size difference will be much greater in person, just like it is with the E-510 and E-410.
![]() I might add the 25mm to my collection for the E-510 -- there are few lenses that I don't want to buy -- but am not planning on replacing my E-510 quite yet. __________________

Well, I may be waiting for the E-4. Or E-5. I have a four-year warranty of the E-3, so I know it will last at least that long, and I'll try to avoid the 'must have' upgrade that the E-510 became after so many years with the E-1. Next time I have a couple thousand dollars to spend I plan on putting into the 150f/2 instead of a body.
I still like the idea of the E-4x0 series, but don't see any advantage over the E-5x0. The flapjack lens is about the same size as the 1.4 teleconverter, which is amazing, but it still projects beyond the E-510's grip. Needless to say the 45-100 will as well. So there's really no advantage for me over my current equipment, and I keep the advantage of having a common battery across all of my cameras. But I do really like the idea of the new camera, and the interest it's created in the system. The camera designs and capabilities are changing so quickly it's hard to predict what I'll want or use in a couple of years. It could be the E-440. |
