That (putting things in perspective) is exactly why I started this thread. A review, how thorough, sincere and balanced, is in the end just that: a review, just another... I was interested in exactly the kind of 'perspective' that you and others have provided, not from 'reviewers' but from day to day real life users ![]() I think by doing so we offer our readers a more truly balanced view of the 'technical aspects', that, together with the pictures shown by many of you, gives a far more complete image of any camera. And the fact that we can do so on this site without DPR like outbreaks and flame wars is a huge compliment to the adultness of our fellow Camels ![]() I for one thank you all for your contributions to this excellent informative thread. ...*my* €0.02... With my kindest regards and respects, Max@Home __________________

). You wouldn't believe how people pick up the most minor things in a review and make it The Next Big Issue™ 4/3rds *has* to overcome or else face Utter Oblivion™ What's even funnier is that a lot of those that complain all they do is take snaps of their cats doing couch-stunts in bad lighting... Hmm maybe Paul's right. I should just stop reading bad material ![]() - Raist |

- tribal stuff. Yes, the same deal of sports. The funny thing is honestly, I never understood the rationality of rooting for a home sports team when you didn't even train with them- but there some are as if they were their kids. The funny thing is, of course, I was never into sports. And you know, I find this quite irrational (but then human beings are lot of irrational but that's another point). But then you should have seen me in console wars and the days of the Amiga. I was an Amiga High Priest™ back then :-0 ![]() There's a certain projection and a certain comfort that if I was in the middle of a dessert and I see a guy holding another 4/3rds camera, at least we have "something in common." It's also religion (or can be). Cult/etc. - Cognitive Disonance- this basically to (over?)simplify it- says that you have thoughts, feelings and habits as a triangle.. usurp one and it will cause you pain. If you make two of them go in the same direction, research says the third will eventually fall in the same direction. So where does this come into play: "OH, so I spent $1,700 USD on a camera, and it' can be bad right? I mean if the camera is bad then that means that I must be X." (this is where personal rules/beliefs come in- like stupid, dumb, daft, retarded, etc.). Of course, avoidance of this pain can develop many psychological mechanisms. It's best to attack other brands, attack the persons making a point and so on. - The people that from other brands come to another forum and troll - this is no different from bullying (attempt at), or just gain attention, tease, etc. Then when the replies come the cycle can evolve to real violence. - Then you add to all this all the other social-group psychology of alpha-omega behaviors. Like people who are not so strong and brave but see in a guy expressing their opinion with confidence or actually being downright nasty as a hero to go by.. as if somehow it gives him or her a bit of that clout or power (a bit like when people root for specific sports players), people who think they can act as mediators, people who think justice is calling them to do a duty (hmm this one seems a bit close to me), people who have a dire need to show their argumentative leetz skilz ad nauseum.. and you get a nice colorful poutpurri that combined with the inherent lack of nonverbal communication and other technology imposed communication/behavior issues, it can end up in glorious schoolyard fights ![]() - Raist |

It's worth noting that the conclusions to the review -- at least the bullet points, which is all most casual readers will be interested in -- have been revised to remove some of the "cons".
I have to confess that I occasionally visit desperate pixel review. I sometimes give conversations that are teetering on the brink of the ridiculous a little shove in the right direction. I've discovered that satire is much more succinct than a well-reasoned argument, and is far more likely to be effective. People who read The Online Photographer will have noticed Mike Johnson's article about the lack of significant difference between 4/3 and APS-C sensor size. Sure enough, over on DPreview, it spawned a discussion that's now seven pages long breaking down formulas, arguing percentages, and determining exactly when an f2.8 lens is an f2.8 lens. It's completely idiotic. I think there should be a rule that each day people are not allowed to spend more time typing messages than they've spent using a camera. It think it would improve the quality of the photography and the discussion. |

As usual it's not the cameras that do it, but the people of course. So, on average, photo people are clearly different from, say, astronomy people. Different perspectives on life and the world around us. Some would say different shallowness levels. I among them.
You won't catch many football fans at a polo match either, or vice versa, do you? Social strata, and all that. __________________
