Default E-3 and the moon

Now, this is what Live View is all about . No more straining into the optical viewfinder or wondering about how the exposure is set. Simply set it to LV, tilt the LCD to a nice viewing angle, set everything to manual, enable 10x LCD zoom to make sure of critical focus, modify aperture or shutter speed as you see fit and then - take the picture .

I"m currently researching telescopes for astrophotography, but for now the 50-200mm + EC-14 will have to do. I can imagine that such a setup as described above will be awesome when strapped to a telescope.

Very nice, I'm jealous. My E-3's in the shop to get its focus screen replaced, and nearly almost certainly won't be back in time for the upcoming eclipse. I shot the last one with my E-510, and the live view was a great help, but I'm going to really miss the flippy screen.

Very nice shot! I'm guessing that at a 1/160 shutter speed you did not use a tripod, right? Dan F.

Nope - tripod was used . I should have mentioned that in my first post. This is part of what makes using LV so nice. So convenient when mounted on a tripod.

Dear Paul, I got excited when I saw your moon shot and ran out front of the house and took one too. Same moon :>) . I'm new on this forum and I managed to upload the photo to my gallery, but I don't know how to insert it in a reply. I see the "insert image" icon, but I don't know what to do from there? Help?? Thanks. Oh, BTW, I took my shot with the same settings, no converter, 200 mm, large format cropped down. No enhancement. Hand held. Pretty good camera, huh!

If your image is held on your computer then you'll likely be wanting to use the 'post attachment' option. If it's held online in your gallery then use the 'post image as a link' option.

Looking forward to seeing it .

This is the photo. After I saw yours, I ran outside. Los Angeles was pretty clear tonight. No tripod. Manual settings 6.3 ~ 1/160th, ISO 100. Shot with 50-200 fully zoomed. No converter. Large format and cropped down using ArcSoft.

Excellent! Interesting that your settings produced such a similar image to mine - obviously the LA smog wasn't so bad tonight . Very good that you managed this handheld.
