Default IMPORTANT - 12-60 Lens

If you have an Olympus 12-60 SWD lens, you BEST take a look at this link below to see if you need to get a new one because (from Olympus) "We have identified that some of our ZUIKO Digital ED 12-60mm SWD lenses may experience less than optimal autofocusing response."....

Looks like I'm outside the affected batch, and also not found any issues regardless.

Any ideas of what the cause of the problem may be?

I haven't heard what the problem actually is. I'd assume the AF motor, or the lens base/mount (contacts) but just guessing.

The good thing is they recognized it, and are publicly willing to make it right. That might silence some who think Olympus doesn't care about the system, the lenses, the AF issues, or the consumer....

...more info on the olympus.uk website:

Quote:
While the manual focus performance of all lenses functions as specified, in some lenses the autofocus may not operate in the intended manner. This is the result of a fault during the manufacturing process of the autofocusing drive.
...good, adequate, timely information and reaction, and a speedy recover plan.

Kudos to Olympus

Yeah they seem quite timely and are open about the fault. Still a bit of a downer for those with affected lenses though. I hope this slip in QC is not a sign of things to come - they've been pretty rock solid since the E-1 launch with no recalls that I can, erm recall .

Great Forums are all about people like you Mr. Pickles!!! Thanks for posting this. My lens did not fall in the "bad" group. Whew. That saved me about a month! Dan F.

We try our best here. There are other forums with more info and more dedicated posts, but overall, we have a very good mix of general photography and some very fine image takers to boot.

"Bit of a downer"..that's right...send my 12-60SWD this morning. Supposed to be back in 2 weeks; 2 weeks of NO pictures! Still....better to have it checked; just to be safe (mine ís in the "bad " batch).

It's only a couple of weeks - you'll survive . Too cold to be out taking pictures anyway .

Any news on your E-3 grip?

Yes, I'll survive. I just hope they do not mess too much with my 12-60....going from sloppy to real bad. I did mention the grip again in my letter to Olympus (together with my 12-60). Just have to wait and wait. By the way...very nice moonshot Paul! I'll try that, once I've got my 50-200SWD.
Any idea why 50-200SWD orders take that long?
