Default Re: Buttons, buttons, and buttons...

Dear Robert999, WELL SAID. I agree. I have the e3 and love it. Also, you rang true on the long and short of it ...THE BUTTON HOLD.... the function that changes everything in terms of USING this camera.

Insofar as the complaints about now knowing which dial changes what, I really can't see the problem. After awhile it becomes rote. I too sampled the d300 and the 40d. For my taste I liked the controls of the e3 better, but go figure! Everybody is different and that's why there are so many choices out there. I am a hobby shooter, however I've been hobbying photos for about 30 years now. Coming from the era of 35mm cameras, I prefer to use the camera and all of it's tools. I don't like to do too much post processing 'cause it makes me feel like I could have done better getting the actual shot and have used my forethought to set the dozens of controls this camera offers for which I paid a handsome dollar to have the body and the 2 swd lenses. BTW, I've never seen faster CAF that's so right on in any camera over the last 30 years. So... that's just my .02 cents worth. All friendly. I totally understand if someone wants to bail out of ANY camera when there's another that is more friendly to that particular photographer's taste. I once had a Canon camera and bailed because I did not like the way Canon reads artificial light indoors. I am grateful for having found PhotoCamel and I have learned from it. Thanks to ALL. Dan F.

Default Hi Dann.. we think alike on the post...

I also don't like doing post processing, I rather push myself to see things at the moment of capture.

I will say though, we all have certainly different opinions and needs about the interface. For example- the hold doesn't do much for me because the issue is not holding the button as much as finding it in the first place.

Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Hey Raist3d, Cheers and thanks for sharing about the post processing too. I thought I was the only one who did not sit at photoshop for hours at a time. Actually I don't have Photoshop. I use ArcSoft Studio 5.5 , and Olympus Studio. Much of my editing is done on Picasa believe it or not. Dan F.

Nope, you are not the only one. We are few but we exist. Even the sponsored- guy that does the Olympus shooting (a famous photographer whose name I forgot) - he has a talented student that he decided to NOT post process after shooting as part of his style (he shoots film too).

If I had a dime for every time someone asks me "how did you convert your photo to B&W? Looks pretty nice" and all I did was dial up the jpeg to B&W and use one of the filter simulations as appropriate

If you look at the shots I posted recently, they are all 95% out of camera jpegs.. just resized for web use.. I always clarify it at the beginning of my post for that reason...
