You are just in the minority of those posting about it. If something isn't right, people complain. If it is, they mostly shut up about it unless they care to help others. Most don't. If the majority of E-3 owners had the problem, you would hope a solution would be forth coming faster...

I think you are right about learning the manual inside and out. I printed the PDF off the Oly web site in letter size and had it bound by Kinkos. This helped me BIG TIME , the over 50 crowd, and I can make notes on the pages with plenty of room. Agreed that this camera has plenty of focus options as well as sensitivity options and combinations thereof. I am happy with the focusing so far and I do change the settings often, play with them, and the hard part is remembering all that is available to me . I guess after a couple of months shooting with the e3 some of these options will become faster in my memory bank. For me, so far, the focusing errors have been "photographer error". I've heard some complaints about the AF button. I set mine on "hold" . Regards to all.

I wonder how many dumped (or will dump) their original 50-200 and re-buy the SWD version at a higher price and after shooting it for awhile and all that, they wonder why they actually did re-buy...?

...do you mean that you do not expect there to be much of a difference in image quality to warrant the extra-cost, or do you mean that it ties up a serious amount of money, and isn't 'everybody's most-used lens' ??

...in comparison, my 100-400 certainly ain't *my* most-used, but I wouldn't like to part with it either (but if one had to go, this would be one of the first...) - I certainly wouldn't upgrade to a newer 'IS type IV' version ATM...

...just wondering what your deeper thoughts were...

...*my* €0.02 worth and all..

...and my kindest regards and respects,

Max@Home

Wonder what the "real world" difference is between the two 50-200 versions, other than the SWD portion...

For me it's not worth upgrading my 50-200 to the SWD version. It's already a very sharp lens and the AF has improved somewhat on the E-3 compared to the E-1. I'd be a bit wary of getting a lens that focuses a few milliseconds faster but with the possibility of losing that pin sharpness. Maybe when it drops in price to the equivalent of the non-SWD 50-200mm I'll take another look - though of course by then it may be harder for me to shift my current 50-200mm...

Interesting to read the comments Paul. I would "want" the 50-200 is I had the E-3, but it would be pretty hard to pull the trigger on one. Some other glass that warrants a savings account would be a bigger "need"...?

Hey y'all. For anyone interested , Samy's Camera in Los Angeles just got in the 50-200 SWD. They have a website. Also, they are listed in the phonebook on Fairfax Ave. , Los Angeles. There is another store on Sepulveda Blvd. in Culver City, Ca. Best, Dan F.

After waiting for 4 weeks I recieved my 50-200SWD yesterday. Quite impressive piece of glass...and the lenshood is even more impressive!! Could it be harmful to the weatherresistance to leave the tripod collar off while shooting?
Now I have to wait for my 12-60SWD again, as mine is one of the "faulted serialnumbers".
Ordered a B & W MCR filter for protection....good idea?
Thank you all!

Woohoo - I'm happy for you . As for tripod collar - personally I've never used it on any of my lenses that came with one, apart from when I'm actually using a tripod of course .

Thnxs Paul.....any comments on filters (I've seen some wrecked/scratched front lenses beacause the photographer did not want to use a filter)?
I'm still waiting for my batterypack....

I've never bothered with filters for the sake of protecting the front element. The hood works well enough for me.

mujana, congratulations on the 50-200. I don't usually use filters, but I do use a B+W MRC UV filter on my old 50-200. I'm not sure if the new one is the same, but I don't like the way the front element extends all the way to the filter ring. I use another brand of lens cap (rhymes with bikon) with a better pinch-grip, but that makes it a bad match for the 50-200.

Otherwise, I only use a clear filter on my 35-100 in the winter, as it's my bad-weather lens.
