I've heard only good things about it. No first-hand experience.

It's is believed to be a very high quality lens - don't yet have it myself but the guys on photozone describe it as nearly flawless - http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/lenses/olympus_50_2/.

The EX25 is designed for this lens so should work very well for 1:1 macro.

Be aware that the minimum f-stop on the 50mm f/2 is f/16 I believe (I don't have one). I do have the 50mm f/3.5 macro and this goes down to f/22. This won't matter at all to some, but may be important to know for others (as deep DOF is sometimes more important than diffraction-free images when shooting macro)...

I have the lens and love it, it is very sharp and does excellent on just anything you shot.
It will do F22 and if you have the TC 1.4 it will got to F32. It is a small lens and works very well on AF until you get really close and then it will hunt a little.
I have the 25 but really do not use it that much, you have to be so close to the subject that it is just had to use. I have the TC 1.4 which I use with the 50 all the time.

Everything on the first page was taken with it.

Some with the 50mm

Oops, maybe I chose the wrong 50mm macro - are we talking about the digital lenses for the E-1? I presumed we were talking about the old manual focus lenses :-[

OK guys
I Have the new 50mm F2 Macro

I Tested the minimum focus compared with the 14-54 F2.8-3.5

The zoom declare a minimum focus distance of 23cm at 54mm and the Macro a minimum focus distance of 24cm
ergo
The zoom can grow the objects better than 50mm macro !?!?!

No!

If I take a picture at a minimum focus distance (manual focus) with both lens zoom and macro
I note that with the 50mm macro I have a magnification of 2 respect to the zoom at same focal length is this possible ??
Note that the distance between camera and the subject is the same.

I think-ed more time about this dilemma the unique results is :
At Minimum distance the zoom (54mm of focus declared) not work at 54 mm !!!!

regards

Sorry
There is another parameter declared with the lens :
Is the magnification at minimum focus distance
for the zoom 14-54 is 0.23 for the 50mm macro is 0.49

bye

I am really not sure what you are wanting to know.

The 50mm macro will give you more magnification then the 14-54.
But that is just part of the story, the 50mm macro is a prime lens and it is a 2.0 all the way. The 14-54 at its full zoom is only a 3.5.

I do not have all the tech data on the lens but if I use the 50mm macro I can focus on the lens cap of the 14-54 and only will be about to get up to half the U in the word Olympus, now with the 14-54 I can get the whole word and up to the inter circle of the cap.
The 50mm is a much sharper lens then the 14-54.

If this is not the info you are looking for I will see if I can give you more.

hello Bill
I know the differences between 50mm Macro F2 and the zoom 14-54 F2.8 -F3.5
The quality of the 50mm is superior to the 14-54 at 54 mm this is obvious !

Before I think-ed the magnification to be "the capability of a lens to focus nearly to the subject"
in a macro lens this is different. "is the capability to grown the subject at the same focal distance.".

Bye
Matteo
