Default An end to any questions of Olympus commitment to a high end camera...

This should hopefully put an end to any questions of whether Olympus is developing a new professional camera. Of course, this could be all made up but I doubt it.

Hmm, I'm not sure that confirmed their commitment to 'high end cameras'. I'm still quite confident that something will come out at Photokina though. As an aside - I've just returned from a week's break and took an E-1 and a Canon 5D with me. I'd say about 75% of the shots were taken with the Oly as it suited the circumstances better (admittedly, mostly dictated by my current lens choices). I just hope for much higher resolution and better AF and I'm a happy camper again .

Well they have said in several interviews they are doing a high end camera, but I think that response means they are working on it. Paul, I have to say you and others were right about the E-1.. figured out it probably has to do with the 14-bit capture it does per RGB component, though the color of the e-330 is actually quite remarkable and a very decent tweakable jpeg engine. I can only hope the new high end also sports the black and white filter simulation modes...

At this point I am waiting for Fuji and Olympus to reveal their next cards. It's most likely I will go with Olympus simply because Ihave the lenses and I do like the lenses since not only they are amongst the best it seems but also they are small. All my system includign camera & flash fits in a small bag.

However, if Olympus says go back on bit capture depth (doubt it), or Fuji does something truly outstanding beyond the DR of the S3, I may be seriously tempted to go Fuji (again, doubt it). I guess at the end of the day is all a balance and Fuji may take the ultimate image quality jpeg crown, but I am willing to bet Olympus will be far more reliable, and if the E-1 is anything to judge, the E-3 will be at least kind of like 2nd place there... (jpeg output), so balancing all out the E-3 would still deserve my serious consideration.

I don't want to imagine paying $2,500 USD for a Fuji camera that has its usb port fall inside the camera body... have read about 6 people already with that problem on the S3. And not to mention all the sensor quality failurs of the S2, and the fact that nor S3 nor S2 can stand the rain.
