I just bought my fiancée a replacement AE-1 with a Vivitar Thyristor 3500 flash.
As much as I would like to exclude that from her bag and give her my Speedlight 155A, it's kind of pointless because it will not sync and meter with my EF, Completely different hot shoes. Is/are there similar flash(es) made with contacts for the Canon EF 35mm SLR? __________________

I'm willing to bet that there aren't any current flash units that will shoot dedicated to that camera. If memory serves me correctly, when the AE1 and the A1 were all the rage TTL flash was in it's infancy. Things changed rapidly and there weren't tons of dedicated units to choose from. I had an A1 and bought a thrid-party dedicated flash unit. Seems it was pretty expensive [though I was only 18 and everything seemed expensive] and grossly underpowered.
Like many of my peers of the day, I got a Vivitar 285. Though it was not dedicated, it did a remarkable job. The thyristor circuitry was top-shelf in its day. I also had a Sunpak "potato-masher", again not dedicated, with a hot shoe mount that not only tripped the flash but had the sensor in it, thus the exposure was measured from the film plane distance. Best of luck in finding something that will TTL meter with what's becoming a dated vintage camera. Steve |

I say get any flash that the camera will trigger and do some calculations; don't know which flashes will trigger though (or sync)

Well I've researched the flash a little more and apparently all I need if the modual from the bottom of the flash unit that matches my shoe....however I still don't know what modual I'm looking for.
What I'm looking for is the modual for the Thyristor 3500 with the contacts for this hot shoe? http://www.myphotoweb.com/Canon_came...0703EF_top.jpg A complete unit would be ideal but....I'd settle just finding out what modual I need. __________________
