I usually shoot 400, 800 and 1600 films, since I find 200 too slow (I even find 400 too slow sometimes, even shooting wide open). In this case, I have 1 roll of Gold 200 left, it's been sitting on my bookshelf for months now. For casual shooting I usually go with BW400CN or Superia 400/800
Other than portraits, what else could I shoot? It would be so much easier if I could change film backs at a moment's notice like on MF…I have this…way of getting myself stuck in literally the darkest situations (that EF 50 1.2 is sounding really good right about now) so I don't want to risk going out with it. Flash is out of the question, the FM doesn't have one built in and I don't fancy carrying one around everywhere. Today I bought a roll of Natura 1600. This one I have a feeling I'll shoot the whole roll in almost-totally-dark situations, handheld, with only the 50 1.4 (seems suitable, as it's beautiful wide open). Any suggestions for that? Opinions on the film? As for my rolls of XP2 and BW400CN, I think I'll go on a more careful path with those 2 rolls. I don't know if I'll be doing portraits with these. Does anyone have opinions on the characteristics of XP2 vs. BW400CN? That's a lot of questions but somehow, I have a feeling I need to shoot a roll of every film I can find (that looks suitably interesting to me (usually means ISO 400+, unless I decide to jump in the deep end and get a roll of slide film for landscapes)) So far I've only seriously shot 1 roll of Gold 200 and quite a few rolls of Superia 400 and 800 (haven't tried 1600; from what I've heard it's not worth it?) Will get my roll of BW400CN back tomorrow - can't wait to post some photos ![]() __________________

In the past, I have often carried two identical film camera bodies. If the sun comes out, ISO 200 is usually fine. ISO 400 works too but a ND filter in one's pocket can sometimes save the day. Inside, at events, a high speed film choice is handy. ISO 400 with ISO 1600 is a possible choice. You must test the films first to avoid surprises and decide which two film speeds may work for you in each camera.

for inspiration: take a look at my weekly BW assignments. The current one is perfect for iso 200.

William - I have considered doing that, but we haven't been getting much sun in HK lately; not sure if that's such a good idea
As of this time, I've used the roll of Gold 200 to do some night shots (!), but last week in preparation for shooting fireworks, I bought 3 rolls of 100 - 2 rolls of Gold and 1 roll of Superia (it was cheap!) Exposed 1 roll of Gold, got 2 rolls of 100 left. If I didn't have to deal with the mirror slap of an SLR (an FM with no foam in the mirror box nonetheless…) and if I didn't shoot moving subjects so much (candids and all), it might be possible Rense - Thanks will take a look. It's times like this I wish we had more open space in HK; some days, even when we have lots of sun, the buildings block it all and we're constantly in shadow. No open, sunny fields for us; very few single, lone trees - the best trees are on the hills, and that requires 2-3 hours up and the same back down. Also, the trees are very dense…full of bugs and generally undesirable living creatures…95% humidity, 35ºC even at the end of summer…__________________
