Well... I thought I had an all-time favorite film camera in my 1963 Zorki-4 Soviet rangefinder with Industar 26 lens and KMZ universal turret viewfinder, but... I recently acquired an absolutely flawless 1958 Yashica 635 twin lens reflex, and now it's my all-time favorite, so I hope I won't get scolded for my change of heart. I doubt that I will be changing my mind again any time soon, because this camera is indeed quite special. You see, it's one of just a handful of 635's that ever left the factory with black radial control dials, (for shutter speed and aperture) rather than the standard-issue silver knobs, in all the years this camera was produced. In fact it quite possibly could be the only remaining 635 in existence today with these unusual dials. Although I have received some ridiculously serious offers of late, I have no intentions of ever selling it. I hope to get many good years of use out of her!
Here are a couple photos, taken yesterday, of my beloved Yashica 635 dual format (takes both 35mm and 120 roll film) camera. Glen Focus On Newfoundland: about my photography: ![]() ![]() |

Isn't every one's favorite camera the last one they bought?
On the other hand, maybe it is the one you have bought the most number of in your life, that would be the Pentax MX for me. But I guess if someone offered me any camera I wanted it would be a Linhof Super Technika V, although I think the IV had better fit and finish and if offered with a complete set of lenses I would take it instead of the V. Cameras I have never owned that I would like to, a decent interchangeable lens 35mm, a Balda Super Baldax with the Synchro-Compur shutter (I like my Hapo 66e so well I figure I would love its big brother). Actually, I was just thinking that I am pretty well set up now. 4x5: Toyo 45G, Crown Graphic. 6x6: A couple of Yashicamats, and 3 folders. 35mm: Pentax MX w 6 lenses (I have a 2nd dead body that could be replaced), and a Canonette GIII. Digital: Olympus e420, and C-5050z. Lighting: Norman 808m outfit, and several handle mount and shoe mount strobes. Anything I can not do with that, I probably do not need to do. In fact the only thing that I am currently missing is a 4x5 enlarger, I do have a 6x6. Even in the days when I had money, I was not that well equipped. |

Having recently rekindled my relationship with film photography my favourite cameras are.
35mm: I have a love for Canon FD based manual focus cameras and lenses. Canon T-90. Bought one brand new in 1987. Absolutely loved it, stupid to have sold it once I picked up digital photography. I re-bought one recently. Canon F-1N: It was a poster of one I saw as kid that got me to be a Canon fan. Always wanted one, never got one but I have one soon to be in my hands, YIPPIE! Canon A-1: In my early pro film shooting days a photographer friend had one and I always liked it. I have one myself now. Medium Format: My true work horse Bronica ETRS. IMO a fine 645 format camera and I kick myself for selling it too. I plan to reacquire an ETRS. ![]() __________________
