Are you sure you want a Minolta?
I was a Minolta user for decades, but became increasingly disenchanted with their output with each succeeding generation of cameras.
We no longer use film cameras at our studio, but if we did, I'm sure they wouldn't be Minoltas.

Best of luck,
Dan

I want to get the Sony 135mm F2.8 STF lens. So, it is either a Minolta film body, Sony digital body or an Ai conversion to Nikon mount.
What about the Minolta AF film body?

I think we would need a little more information about why that particular lens and what you wish to photograph with it? I know the lens is reputed to be one of the best at producing smooth bokeh (I hate that word) but what is the intention of your endeavour? Film has its own characteristics and probably the learning curve is steeper, how ever Minolta af film cameras can be had for (comparatively) little money on ebay etc. The a700 has had some good reviews. I myself use a Konica Minolta 7D and am very happy with it. However I shall look closely at the a900 if it ever comes out. For film the maxxum 9 or 9xi are hard to beat. Built like a tank and then some.

This is the thread at the Cafe that got me interested in the Sony 135 STF lens.
Lens with the most creamy bokeh (no, not the 85/1.4) - NikonCafe.com

It looks like the Sony A700 digital body competes with the Nikon D300.

new to cameras

so can someone tell me if a minolta maxxum 5 body will operate without a lens attached

right now the sutter and flash go with no film, but when the film is installed it winds on the reel then nothing.... looked through the viewfinder and its blurry

not going to invest in a lens if the cameras shot
