Nice gear, Sean. I like old, weird cameras too, so it is nice to see others. The "commie" cams are usually a great deal, since they are based on captured German designs. Plus they have the practical Russian styling! Love that Chinese script on the Seagull.

Nice collection, Sean. I think the seagull is my favorite.
Let me contribute a couple of my own cameras to the thread. First, the 1916 Conley 8x10 "New view": The lens, a turner reich 12" / 21" / 28" triple convertible in a Betax #4 shutter, might have been manufactured any time from the late 1800s up to 1945 or so (based on the lens elements alone). I'm not sure when betax #4 shutters were manufactured. I'm guessing 1920s or so, and this might be original to the camera; it came with it when I bought it. The lens board is home-made. Unfortunately this camera is undergoing a serious bellows-ectomy in preparation for a transplant: ![]() ![]() I'm planning to construct the bellows this weekend, and I sure hope I don't fail miserably at it. I've never tried to make a bellows before. It is a shame to have to remove the original bellows, but it would be more of a shame to waste such a nice camera by shelving it (because of the deterioration seen in the first image). |

Next a beat-up rolleiflex automat III manufactured during WWII:
![]() Unfortunately this nice camera has a light leak that has been ruining 80% of my photos with it. I can see the leak inside the body, but thus far can't think of a reasonable way to seal it with the material at my disposal (sealing it in a brute-force way would cause other problems; I need to figure out a special way to seal it). Otherwise it works great (if you don't mind using a paperclip to hold the viewing hood in place, due to a lost pin). |

Finally a lubitel 166B, a nice russian TLR that works about as well as my rolleiflex (albeit not quite as elegantly).
It also has a light leak problem, in this case a simple one to repair which I just haven't gotten around to. Excuse the quality (or lack thereof), this was a webcam snap from a couple of years ago. I haven't photographed this camera since. ![]() ![]() |
