Default My T90 died :(

I hadn't picked up my old Canon T90 for maybe 3 years but I was feeling nostalgic and decided to fire up the old girl again with the intention of running a film through it.

4 new AA's and I turn it on, fire a couple of test shots then the shutter froze

Now when I press and hold the shutter I can hear what sounds like a tiny solenoid trying to trigger at roughly 0.5sec intervals.

I guess it needs a new shutter but I can't see it being an economical repair.

This camera was iconic when I got it - feel somewhat guilty of neglecting it all these years

Probably find you another one around for cheap.

And that is why this board needs to stay active. Less camera deaths from starvation that way. Come on you camera killers...

There's a canon FD forum on yahoo groups, someone there may be able to help, but I've a feeling not. Try searching through the T90 posts, there are quite a few.

T90s do not like being neglected and many are being thrown out as a lot of parts are no longer available - especially those parts that die from neglect.

Get a proper mechanical camera. Reliable as an army boot.

Funnily my Mom had a T50 in the past. Silliest thing it was. Cheers, Sean.

Have you tried pressing the DF preview button a couple of times, I used mine a few weeks back 1st time in over 18 months and the shutter wouldnt fire and I could hear a similar sound so I tired the DF button and the shutter started working and has worked ever since, not that I have used it I just keep going back to it and trying and its ok
feel guilty locking it away in my old billingham.

Wow, Maybe I should take mine out of the closet and load some film into that puppy. Every since I got my A2E, I sort of neglected the T70 and T90.

My T-70 recently died (shutter) but it wasn't from neglect, just old age and electronics in the tropics.
There is a known issue with the shutter on the T-90 shutter magnets. If the shutter isn't exercised regularly the shutter will fail to fire (it is physically stuck). I recently read that in a last case scenario to "hit" the camera bottom on your palm to jar loose the magnets and then exercise it vigorously for several minutes if you were lucky enough to break it loose.

The T-90 and the T-70 require a lithium battery used for the meter. IIRC.

That's incorrect. The lithium internal battery is only used for day/date etc. The metering is via the "AA" cells.
