Default iso 3200 in iso 1600 camera?

I have a Pentax ME super that only allows 1600 iso film at the highest setting. On the same dial it has a x1 and x2 adjustment for over exposure. Can I use iso 3200 film at set with the x2 setting and get the proper exposure?

You have the right idea but you are going in the wrong direction. If you are using iso 3200 film you need to decrease your exposure. I assume you are describing the exposure compensation dial. Does that same dial have a -1 X or a 1/2 X position? That's what you need to compensate for doubling the iso.

Cheers/Mike

Doesn't work like that, Blume......set the ME Super at 1600 ISO and you'll find the exposure comp will not let you go less. But Hey.....it's only a stop...and don't forget the 3200 film is actually a nominal 1000 iso film anyway....cheers...Bob

heartseye is rite. When the camera is set at 1600 it wont let me set the comp dial at the 1/2 or 1/4 mark.

Could I set the speed 1 stop faster than what the light meter indicated to make up for it?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with that camera. In any case if you are shooting in manual mode you can compensate with either the shutter speed or aperture by reducing 1 stop from what the meter reads.
