Default Need Help With Film Cameras...

Hi All, I'm looking for a film camera that I can shoot 120 film with. I don't know much about cameras that shoot 120 (I've only worked with 35mm), so I was hoping someone you suggest a camera that would be good for me. ( With this camera I would be shooting mostly out doors) I don't think I can pay a lot (Something about $100-$400), I'm 15 and just bought a Canon 30D which set me back a thousand.

Thanks,

-Dan

There are few on here who use Holgas. They are really inexpensive, but offer a lot of fun factor. Search in this board for Holga, and for a site I have seen mentioned, thry this holga

Hmmmmm......I think you would get better images from your Canon than from a Holga.......But, you might be able to find a decent Yashica 124G for a reasonable price.....

If you are just looking to experiment with the format, the Holga is a fun camera. And Heartseye's idea of a Yashica Mat 124g is also an excellent choice.

A good in-between would be to look for a Lubitel 166b on eBay. You should be able to get one cheap (I paid $40 a few years ago). It has a decent lens and can produce some good shots. It is a step up from a toy camera like the Holga, but not a big step! I can post some Lubi shots if you are interested.

Pentex makes a medium format (120) that is an SLR which is a great buy for a medium format. I still shoot that format and love it for black and whites. But then I have a darkroom in my basement and develope and print my own. Try searching EBAY for medium format.

Oh sorry. Didn't read the part about wanting images as good or better than his Canon in the original thread....because it isn't there.

He is 15. Probably doesn't know what working with film entails. A Holga is a good way to learn the whole process. Image quality from a Holga is a subjective thing. It isn't pin sharp, but it does produce some nice images. Yes, a Yashica or a Lubitel would be better in certain image qualities, but they come at a higher price. If I knew nothing about film and all that is involved with it, I'd want to start light on the wallet. Might be me though.

I have shot with a Holga before.....but didn't care for it. I've also done some dark room in the past 6 months.
