You could treat your digital medium just like you treat film, send it off to your camera store and have them send back prints, and you could buy new cards for every time you use it. And you might need to disable that 'evil' LCD on the back of your camera, but it is an idea.

It's a small price to pay. It only costs me $1.90 to process each 35mm roll of 36 and $4.50 for a roll of 120. I doubt if it costs me any where near $1,200 - $1,600 a year to process film. That's the price it would cost me every 12-18 months to move up to a new improved DSLR or system, just to keep up with everyone else. I scan the negatives, that I want to keep. I don't have storage space for prints. I can easily store the negatives, that I want to save. I only print a few of the images. The majority end up as digital files on CD/DVDs or on hard drives. I can view the images on my computer screen. I don't find the LCD an evil demon. I have LCDs on the back of my SLRs that show data. You have to learn how to imagine in your mind what the data means and calculate the outcomes. Imagine what photogs did before any LCDs. Use a P&S camera if you don't want to use your imagination. Let the camera make it turn out right. A lot of people never take their DSLR off Program mode. I don't always need the instant gratification from using a digital camera. Anticipation is fun; waiting to see if you got it right with a film camera. I'm sure even Ansell Adams made mistakes.

I've been "taking pictures" for 65 years (35mm film). I bought my first digital camera 9 months ago (D200) and there are several things about shooting digital that I have grown to love. Nevertheless I still use film about 25% of the time. I really like the lighter weight and smaller size of my film cameras. And a Contax body with Zeiss glass produces pretty good images too.

Cheers/Mike

It all depends on what camera you get... I love my Olympus E-500 because it's so small and light.

Like Mike I've been taking photo's since 1947, my first 35 mm camera in high school.
I still use 4 film cameras, 2 Canon's and 2 Voigtlanders in conjunction with my digital cameras. I often will set up a scene with the digital and "chimp" it then shoot the film camera. Film for me is extremely inexpensive because I have it developed and high res. scanned and placed on a CD for less than $5.00 for a 36 ex. roll. Some of the images are really superior with film in regards to dynamic range, dam I hate blown highlights.

Wow, that's really a deal, even for a country where labor is relatively cheap. Maybe I should start mailing my film down there.

Cheers/Mike

I am so excited....picked up my F4 B&w and F5 slide negatives. Very, very happy with the F4 negs but on the slide ones, there is some homework to be done.

Can you post some examples of your slides? Maybe we can help you figure out what happened.

Bob
