If you're on a budget, I'd give Fujifilm Acros 100 a try. It's only $2.69 a roll at both Adorama and B&H. It's what I've been using for the last year or so, and I've also been developing it myself, which is half the fun.

As important as the film you select is the developer you use to process it. This
is my experience, anyway. With Ilford Delta and TMAX (T-grain films) I find my
homebrew Thornton's 2-Bath (mixed from raw chems I get from Artcraft) does
a good job:

Ilford Delta 100, 4 mins each bath, 20C, 1937 6x9 Voigtlander Bessa RF

TMAX 400, 5 mins each bath, 20C, 1937 6x9 Voigtlander Bessa RF

Fomapan 100, HC-110F (1:79) 1937 6x9 Voigtlander Bessa RF, Helomar lens

I really like Kodak's HC-110 and Fomapan films. I use HC-110 as a one-shot and it can push film where my homebrew cannot.

I just ordered some Arista.EDU from Freestyle. That is their house brand of Fomapan 100, supposedly. I hear it works pretty well stand developed in Rodinal 100:1. Which is good, because I have a bottle of Agfa Rodinal under the sink. At $2.29 a roll it is about the cheapest fresh film you can get.

Very nice look. How many minutes do you recommend for the Fomapan 100 in HC-110F ?

I tried in HC-110B but overcooked my negs (6.5 min as found somewhere online)

Thanks, Bill

Hi, Bill, the above pic was Fomapan 100, for Fomapan 400 I'd go with HC-110H
(1:63) @13 mins, 20C. I like Fomapan film even for 35mm:

Fomapan 400, HC-110B, 6 mins, 20C

I started to shoot film last year as first ever myself and i develop only B&W by myself, i use many different films even all people told me me to just use one film and developer combo for conveniency, and they are right, because when i used different films i found that i love them all and can't decide which i should go with, i thought i will see issues on using different films at once, but to my surprise all of them worked with me except that film iso 3200 [Delta 3200] which i will test it later and see how can i get it better results.

Tareq, I agree with you completely.

I think photography has to be fun, an enjoyable hobby. If we are not "professionals" then by trying to turn our hobby into a factory, where everything comes out the same, time-after-time, we will lose the fun.

I was worrying because I keep hearing about favorite films that keep getting discontinued but then I thought, there are still plenty of films available and each of them can make beautiful pictures.

So now I take the attitude that I will buy and use what's available and enjoy it for what it is. When there is no longer film available, anywhere at all, then I will go do something different.

-Bill
